Or if they were closer, they may not have been able to reach that speed before striking the ship. Everything had to line up perfectly for that maneuver to work otherwise they may have ended up going into the wormhole before reaching the target. Not to mention that hyperdrives work by opening wormholes into hyperspace and then traveling faster than the speed of light through the wormhole. It actually shows how desperate of a maneuver it really was because all it did was delay the FO. It may have taken the ship down, but it certainly wasn't the blow that people seem to believe. That means it must have been operable for a pretty long time after the strike occurred. It's shown that there were walkers, fighters, Kylo's ship, General Hux and the giant cannon were all able to make it off the ship safely. I suppose you're right that the ship was a total loss but it seems that the majority of those on board were able to evacuate besides those in the immediate area of the strike. Plenty of things in Star Wars defy the physics of our universe (such as every planet, regardless of size, having an equal amount of gravity) so making assumptions using our universe is pointless. If it's already law breaking, their must be different laws in this universe OR it's possible that you don't actually understand how hyperdrives work since it's a fictional universe and this technology doesn't actually exist. There's no reason to believe those shields protect against something slamming into it at lightspeed. We can assume the rest of the First Order's fleet had some kind of shields activated at the time of the Raddus's impact. No, a capital ship isn't going to obliterate something like a moon if there's no weak points to exploit. This is why an A-wing was able to bring down an SSD. All it needs to do is destroy a vital component like a command bridge if the object is much bigger than itself. Hyperdrives which can be easily detected at a range and disabled with enough firepower. So for something to take out star destroyers, you'd either need to beat the shields down into submission, or get a cruiser-sized object with shields and hyperdrives for ramming purposes. This proves that lightspeed does not assure mutual destruction for both objects, only for the one crashing. The Malevolence (a massive ship 1000+ meters longer than the Raddus) was hotwired to path into a nearby moon by Anakin during TCW when it was powering up to enter hyperspace, it did so, but the moon remained very much intact when the ship hit it at lightspeed. That A-wing wouldn't have made it to the executor if the shields were up (bear in mind the shields were only taken down because Ackbar ordered every Rebel cruiser to fire on the Super Star destroyer, allowing an x-wing to get in close enough to take out the generator)įurthermore, we have evidence from the Malevolence that mass and size does matter when lightspeeding into an object. ||| Join our Discord! ||| Question?
